The Day of Surgery

©      Bring things to brighten your child’s room.

©      Bring things to help your child feel comfortable.

©      YOU need to eat BEFORE you leave your home.

©      Take care of YOURSELF!

(The thought, "My child can't eat so I  won't either" is NOT a good idea.

            YOUR blood sugar will fall.

YOU will get irritable and grouchy.

            YOU will be miserable.

. . .  And that will NOT HELP your child at all!)

©      DON'T eat or drink in front of your child!

©      Don’t hide food in a purse.  A child will find it!

©      Your child watches your facial expressions.

©      Be positive.  Don’t project “fear” into your child.

©      Speak to your nurse and doctor warmly in front of your child.

©      Know the names of your Doctors and Nurses.

©      Your child needs to see that you trust the doctors and nurses!

©      Provide good memories for your child and for your family.

©      Take pictures.

©      Smile.

©      Buy your child a balloon.    (Mylar Balloons only please!  Plastic balloons are a choke risk!)

©      Request a visit from Bernard, the Hospital Puppet!

Inside the hospital, dial 75048 to reach Bernard or his Mommy, Diana Chiles.
